Happenings at the Shelter

Recently as a direct result of successful fundraising by some very dedicated staff and volunteers at Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. the shelter was able to upgrade its washer and dryer to a more commercial solution.

As you can imagine the amount of laundry that needs to be washed and dried when operating the premier no kill animal shelter on the Treasure Coast, can quickly become daunting and expensive. We were constantly running the residential washer and dryer day and night to keep up with the work load. Electric and repair bills for the old equipment were mounting so a decision was made to move to a commercial solution.

Now we can wash and dry a days worth of laundry in less then five loads and two hours of running time. The dryer is a gas model and uses even less electrical consumption when its running.

Martin County Propane donated the propane tank and the entire installation of the gas system at no cost to Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. saving the shelter about $2000 in parts and labor. Martin County Propane also supplies Dogs and Cats Forever gas at a very discounted price which we are eternally grateful.

The shelter staff and volunteers now spend less time doing laundry and more time with the most important task of seeing to the welfare and benefit of the dogs and cats that are entrusted to our care.

These measures would not be possible without the support of the community who has over and over again been generous to Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. needs to provide a safe, loving and caring environment for the most at risk and unwanted animals. Thank you for your continued generosity and support of Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc.

One hundred and seventy-two guests dined on appetizers from sponsors such as Cuisine256, OooLaLa Catering, Tutto Fresco, and many more. Beverages were provided by Southern Eagle Distributors. Top notch entertainment consisted of “All Around Entertainment for You” with Melissa & Rich. The flowers donated by St. Lucie Florist graced the tables that were donated by Eventmakers. Our volunteer bartenders were Chris Dobek and Jimmy Tresco, our wait staff Jackie Massaro, and Melissa Reese. Our Photographer & Artist, Karla Smith drove up from Boca Raton to capture the event. Additional photography was provided by Marisol Guntkowski.

Every guest went home with a “Doggie Bag” provided by PrimeK9Cuisine of Miami and BoneAppetit out of Casselberry, Florida.

The committee chairs, Kathy DiChiara, Fran Fernandes, Angela Gardella, Mich Moeding, and Amy Vanderbreggen’s teamwork was evident at this function. Everything went off with out a hitch. Let’s not forget the volunteers Porcha Beneditti, MaryLou Flynn, Judy Marchionni, Hilda Rosa and Jan Zeek. None of their husbands got off easy either, they were put to work behind the scenes.

All and all the hard work paid off because it was a tremendous success!
