Please be on the look out for our stolen moving truck.

IMG_2237

Someone stole our moving truck. If you happen to see this truck please call the police and the Dogs and Cats Forever Animal Shelter 772-489-5454.

The blue Tropical Storage lettering has been recently removed so you are looking for an ALL WHITE truck. However you can still clearly see all the ghost images of the old Tropical Storage lettering.

The truck was stolen from our thrift store parking lot on or about 7/7 or 7/8 in the overnight early morning hours.

This post will be updated with the license plate number and VIN number as more information becomes available.

If you see this truck, please call the Shelter and or the local Police department.

We need our truck back!

Sago Palms, beautiful around the house deadly to your dogs.

SagoPalm

Sago Palms or King Sago Palms are very common around south Florida. You can find them planted in yards and in pots inside homes.

Did you know they are potentially deadly to your dogs? They sure are. In fact about 30% of dogs that ingest ANY part of the Sago Palm will die. Symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea. Dogs can develop liver issues in just hours including liver failure. Its also good to note that even if the dogs show no symptoms after eating any part of the Sago Palm the animal can still die.

If you have Sago Palms in or around your home and have dogs, beware! Its recommend to remove the palms or fence them off to keep animals away.

VIP Stops By the Shelter

Florida State Attorney General Pam Bondi, an animal lover, made a surprise visit to the shelter today. Dogs and Cats Forever thanks the Attorney General for her appreciation and support for what is being done at the organization.

A Job Well Done!

Liz_SushiBeing a non-profit no kill animal shelter is no easy task. Ask any of the number of volunteers who assist Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. on a regular basis. Money is always tight, help is sometimes short. Every donation whether its a can of food or as simple as a dollar bill is always accepted with grace and humility on behalf of the dogs and cats entrusted to the care of the shelter.

One such volunteer in 2013 stands out. Liz Levanti, a sixteen year old sophomore at Lincoln Park Academy in Ft. Pierce started a donation drive for the animals at Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. As part of her curriculum in the International Baccalaureate program offered through the school, Liz volunteered at Dogs and Cats Forever throughout the summer and fall of 2013. She took pictures of dogs and cats, started a Facebook page to keep people updated on the status of the fund drive and also displayed pictures in her mothers salon.

Liz raised more then $3500 in cash and donated goods to assist the animals at Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc.

It’s not everyday a person walks through the front door and donates such a significant amount of money and items. Its not every day a sixteen year old high school sophomore does it when her peers are spending the summers and weekends at the movies and beach.

Today Dogs and Cats Forever recognizes Liz for her fantastic achievements with a pizza lunch. Oh did I mention Liz is spending a portion of her spring break volunteering at the shelter? She is.

lizparty3

Iams and Eukanuba Pet Food Recall

August 14, 2013 – The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has voluntarily recalled specific lots of dry pet food because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These lots were distributed in the United States and represent roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of annual production. NoSalmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

This issue is limited to the specific dry pet food lot codes listed below. This affects roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of total annual production. The affected product was distributed to select retailers across the United States. These products were made during a 10 day window at a single manufacturing site. P&G’s routine testing determined that some products made during this timeframe have the potential for Salmonella contamination. As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling the potentially impacted products made during this timeframe. No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement.

P&G is retrieving these products as a precautionary measure. Consumers who purchased a product listed below should stop using the product and discard it and contact P&G toll-free at 800-208-0172 (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST), or via website at www.iams.com or www.eukanuba.com.
