ONE YEAR WITH NO INTEREST, WILL ANYONE EVER COME FOR ME? My name is Leah. I’m starting to think that nobody will give me a chance. I would make an excellent companion for an active adult family and I like other dogs. I’m a girl who loves to have fun, go swimming and would enjoy having a fenced-in yard to run and play in with my people! When I see someone that I don’t know, I bark. Trust me, I’m all talk – I have to alert my people when a stranger is near! But, just ignore me for a minute, and I will soon become your new best friend. Unfortunately, most would just dismiss a dog like me and walk on by, and that’s why I’ve been here for over a year. I’m a real sweet heart once I know you, and it doesn’t take much time or effort. I might put up a front but I’ll melt in your hands like putty shortly after. Loads of love and licks are in the future of my adopter.
Petey’s got it all – the looks, the charisma, and the loving heart that every potential adopter hopes to take home with them. This sweet senior guy is a volunteer favorite and it’s pretty clear why. He really turns on the charm with his hugs, kisses and desire to be by your side. This angel boy awaits a family that consists of adults or teenagers, and wouldn’t mind sharing his home with another pup. Consider bringing home lots of love – head on over and adopt Petey today!
I’m Sadie, a 10 year old lab/shepherd mix, let’s get to know each other. I’m an absolute doll once you get to know me. I am a goofy girl who will wiggle and wag at the sight of a leash; I LOVE walks! I’m not only beautiful, I’m smart too. I know my basic commands and will gladly give you my paw. I need a living situation that can be difficult to find. I would do best as the only pet in a home with one adult person. The reason is, once I find a person of my own, I can be very protective of that person. I promise to make up for it with endless love, loyalty and lots of kisses.
Beautiful Dre could be your newest family member! This beautiful boy knows his basic commands and loves to play fetch! Dre dreams of having a fenced-in yard some day. He’s got a lot of pep in his step for an older guy but his energy isn’t overwhelming. Dre’s ideal home would be one where he can be with adults or older kids. Dre is good with cats and can be dog selective. Stop by the shelter to meet this sweet man!
I’m Ezra, a 3 year old shepherd mix. I was rescued from an awful situation, which causes me to be very untrusting and scared of people that I don’t know. I’m really hoping someone will come along and see the potential I have to be their best friend. I just need someone who is willing to be patient and get to know me. I need an experienced adult home, I am dog selective so if you have a dog already, we will have to meet first. I will need a fenced in yard.
This happy guy is named Diesel. Diesel is a 9 year old Lab/American Bulldog mix. He loves to play and has a great disposition. Diesel needs lots of exercise so if you have a big fenced-in yard or love to go on walks Diesel may be the dog for you.
I’m Jeffrey, a 5 year old curr mix! I came to the shelter as a stray, I was found wandering in the rain. I’m a quiet & calm boy, but I am nervous so I need someone who understands that. I am looking for a quiet adult home, as the only pet, and will need a fenced-in yard. I get nervous with a lot of people around, but I promise to be a loyal companion to my future adopter.
Hey, I’m Rex, a 4 year old german shepherd. I can be a little people selective. But those who have gotten to know me call me a sweet guy. I have some medical issues that make it hard for me to be adopted, the staff can tell you more about that. I need an experienced handler in an adult home as the only pet. I promise to be loyal to my owner.
Hey, Luke here. I’m a sweet guy looking for my forever home. I’m a 4 year old Lab/Blue heeler mix. I can be dogs selective and need an adult home. An experienced owner would be best for me. I will require a home with a fenced in yard where I can run and play. I have a lot of energy I need an active home, I’m slow to worm up.
Yin is a 7 year old Lab/American Bulldog mix who has called the shelter her home for many years, but she is hopeful that some day her special person will find her. She would like to be someone’s one and only baby, so she is in search of a home without other pets. Yin is very playful and desires a fenced-in yard to call her own. She prefers men over women. This beautiful girl truly has the potential to be an incredible companion.
Mya was found as a stray in the summer of 2014, and brought to Dogs & Cats Forever No-Kill Shelter in Fort Pierce, FL. She had mange and was put on several medications by a veterinarian, but sadly, she had an allergic reaction to her medications, and developed an autoimmune response to her meds. She has been to specialists in Stuart, West Palm Beach, and Gainesville, at the University of Florida. She is slowly getting better but has run up more than $5,000.00 in vet bills and medication costs. Her vets say that it could take more than a year for her to recover fully. Mya is only a year old and has a wonderful personality despite being in and out of clinics and given medicine almost nonstop.
Mya needs veterinary care for many months to come, and while Dogs & Cats Forever is currently responsible for her care, we are a private animal shelter which receives no financial assistance from local government, and we need help to pay her bills. Please help Mya get better so she can one day find a forever home.

Being a non-profit no kill animal shelter is no easy task. Ask any of the number of volunteers who assist Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. on a regular basis. Money is always tight, help is sometimes short. Every donation whether its a can of food or as simple as a dollar bill is always accepted with grace and humility on behalf of the dogs and cats entrusted to the care of the shelter.
One such volunteer in 2013 stands out. Liz Levanti, a sixteen year old sophomore at Lincoln Park Academy in Ft. Pierce started a donation drive for the animals at Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. As part of her curriculum in the International Baccalaureate program offered through the school, Liz volunteered at Dogs and Cats Forever throughout the summer and fall of 2013. She took pictures of dogs and cats, started a Facebook page to keep people updated on the status of the fund drive and also displayed pictures in her mothers salon.
Liz raised more then $3500 in cash and donated goods to assist the animals at Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc.
It’s not everyday a person walks through the front door and donates such a significant amount of money and items. Its not every day a sixteen year old high school sophomore does it when her peers are spending the summers and weekends at the movies and beach.
Today Dogs and Cats Forever recognizes Liz for her fantastic achievements with a pizza lunch. Oh did I mention Liz is spending a portion of her spring break volunteering at the shelter? She is.
Liz, on behalf of all the animals at Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. we thank you for your hard work and selfless dedication to this organization. The animals and staff are very proud of you and know you will continue to succeed and go far in life with the attitude you have.
The animals and staff of Dogs and Cats Forever, Inc. thanks all the volunteers and community who donate to the organization whether its time, money, goods and services.
